New sewing factory to provide 700-800 jobs in Armenia's GyumriMarch 27, 2017 - 16:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Sunday, March 26, traveled to Gyumri in Armenia's Shirak province, where he learnt that Sastex textile manufacturer will soon open a sewing factory under a $12 million investment program and create 700-800 jobs. To support the initiative, the government has made a decision to allocate to Sastex the building of the former regional hospital and the adjacent areas. Sastex CEO Christian Geleji told the prime minister that the groundwork reinforcement activities have already been completed. The building is earthquake-proof and almost ready for commissioning. Interior and exterior decorations await completion along with the installation of electric power fittings. The factory will consist of 5 buildings. The building of the regional hospital will serve as a training center, which will also accommodate the company’s administrative premises and a stand for showcasing Sastex-made products. 90 percent of the produce will be exported. Geleji also noted that there are cottages currently installed next to the newly-built factory occupied by several families that will need accommodation after evacuation. Therefore, 16 one-story houses are being built to accommodate those households free of charge. The first 8 houses will be ready for housewarming in the month of July, the CEO said. Karapetyan was asked to consider the possibility of allocating to the company the unused buildings adjacent to the nearby railway. Welcoming Sastex’s development plans, Karapetyan expressed readiness to support them.
