Karapetyan: Armenia-Russia relations reaching an unprecedented level

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian-Russian relations are reaching an unprecedented high level, Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan told his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoygu in Moscow on Wednesday, August 11.

During the meeting, Karapetyan weighed in on the reforms currently underway in Armenia and thanked Shoigu for the support in that process. He also detailed the Russian defense chief on the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, emphasizing the importance of Russia's mediation role.

According to Karapetyan, Armenia remains committed to the establishment of lasting peace in the region and to the continuation of negotiations, but will not tolerate the occupation of its border regions, will take all necessary steps to restore territorial integrity.

During the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the Armenian-Russian allied relations, exchanged views on regional and international security issues.

Shoigu said, meanwhile, that the Russian Defense Ministry is ready to assist Armenia in modernizing and reforming its armed forces. The Russian 102nd military base stationed in Armenia is well-equipped and is a guarantor of stability, he added.

The defense ministers of the two countries reached a number of important agreements on the forthcoming cooperation programs.
