Turkey ratifies Shushi Declaration with Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey’s parliament on late Thursday, February 3 ratified a bill on the Shushi Declaration signed with Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh city, which came under Baku's control during the war in fall 2020, Yeni Safak reports.

A total of 266 lawmakers voted in favor of the declaration in the 581-seat parliament, while 11 lawmakers were against it.

The declaration, signed on June 15, 2021, envisages the raising of relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan to the level of an alliance. The declaration focuses on defense cooperation and establishing new transportation routes.

The ceremony was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Shushi.
