Tigran Avinyan elected the new mayor of Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Yerevan City Council has elected Tigran Avniyan from the ruling Civil Contract as the mayor of the Armenian capital.

37 out of 65 members of the City Council cast their ballots on Tuesday, October 10, with 32 voting in favor of Avinyan.

In elections in mid-September, Civil Contract won 24 seats with 32.6% of the votes, and Hanrapetutyun Party closely linked to the ruling party won 8. Together the two have 32, while opposition parties hold the other 33 seats.
