Explosions rock Tehran, Khamenei moved to safety

PanARMENIAN.Net - Explosions were heard in central Tehran after Israel said it carried out a preventive strike on Iran “to neutralize the threat.”

Three explosions were reported in the central part of Tehran, and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was moved to a secure location, RIA Novosti reported, citing Reuters.

“Iran’s supreme leader is not in Tehran; he has been transferred to a safe place,” the agency said.

According to Iranian state media, three blasts were heard in central Tehran and thick smoke was seen rising. Mobile communication was cut off in some districts, while internet access was weak and unstable.

Fars reported explosions in the cities of Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah.

According to the agency, Israeli missiles struck Daneshgah Boulevard and the Jomhuri district in the capital of the Islamic Republic. Another agency, ISNA, reported smoke rising in another Tehran neighborhood, Pasteur, following an explosion.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said “a missile and drone attack toward Israel is expected, potentially targeting civilians.”

Air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv for the first time after a long pause, and residents were urged to seek shelter in protected areas.

The Home Front Command sent a message to residents advising them, in light of the security situation, to remain near protected spaces.

Israel’s state broadcaster reported that the operation launched against Iran was named “Shield of Judah,” and a state of emergency was declared in the country.
