Russian Foreign Ministry comments on Armenia vote

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow intends to build its relations with Yerevan based on the actual actions of Armenia’s leadership, commenting on the parliamentary elections held in Armenia.

“As for Moscow’s future course in relations with Armenia, we intend to shape our policy taking into account the real steps of Armenia’s leadership,” Zakharova said, according to RIA Novosti.

She added that the election results demonstrated that Armenian society remains deeply polarized.

“In these circumstances, making unilateral decisions regarding Armenia’s future development path without taking into account the views of all segments of the population would mean leading the country toward further division and socio-economic upheavals,” Zakharova stated.

She also added that Russia wishes the “brotherly Armenian people” peace and prosperity.

According to the preliminary results of the June 7 National Assembly elections, the vote distribution was as follows: Civil Contract — 49.825%, Strong Armenia — 23.281%, Armenia Alliance — 9.934%, and Prosperous Armenia — 3.996%. Under these updated figures, the Prosperous Armenia Party does not clear the 4% electoral threshold required for parliamentary representation.
