Frankfurter Rundschau: Aliyev uses Karabakh problem for his own purposes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Three years after the war on Georgia, the Caucasus is again threatened with a new war, the consequences of which will be catastrophic for Europe, according to Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper.

Nevertheless, the international community, specifically the European Union ‘nobly’ stays aside, as the war monger, Azerbaijan, is an oil supplier and an important partner for Nabucco pipeline construction, says an article titled “Danger of a new war in Caucasus.”

Meanwhile, the danger is impending. Islamic force may use destabilization of the region to mobilize their supporters. Although Muslim Azerbaijan has a long secular history, the situation prompts that the territory can transform into a base of terrorist groups.

Under the circumstances, the European Union and international community should take action while the OSCE had better expand its mission in Nagorno Karabakh to prevent escalation.

Azerbaijan’s leader Ilham Aliyev, who inherited the presidential post from his father, continues boosting military expenditures, bringing it to over US$3 billion, and at the same time uses the Nagorno Karabakh problem for his own purposes, i.e to distract the popular attention from the domestic problems, the article says.
