Armenia follows path of international standards introduction in pharmaceutical field

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government attaches importance to introduction of international standards in the pharmaceutical field. On November 25, 2010, the government decided that GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standard should be applied by all producers of medicines.

GXP Center of Excellence Director, Editor-in-Chief of Pharma magazine Aram Ghazaryan said that there are several producers in Armenia, which already operate with this standard.

Chairman of the Union of Armenian Medicines Producers and Importers (UAMPI) Samvel Zakaryan noted for his part that UAMPI has applied to the government for prolongation of the date of the decision’s entry into force from January 2011 to 2012, since local companies do not manage to make needed investments to introduce GMP standard on time.

Moreover, according to Zakaryan, works are carried out to introduce also GDP (Good Distribution Practice) standard, while the results of it will be submitted for the Armenian government’s consideration soon.

He added that UAMPI is against the government’s policy of importing medicines from third countries to facilitate competition and decrease prices.
