“Poqr Mher” military educational complex students take oath

PanARMENIAN.Net - On September 14 Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan visited “Poqr Mher” military educational complex.

The President familiarized himself with the training conditions and also attended the oath-taking ceremony, which was followed by a march. President Sargsyan was accompanied by Armenia’s Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and Kotayk region Governor Kovalenko Shahgaldyan.

As Gevorg Malkhasyan, chairman of the council of the military educational complex told journalists, there are 265 6-12 grade students at the complex.

“We also foresee admission of 1st graders,” he said, noting that students’ social status does not matter.

“The goal of the complex is to train excellent sergeants and officers. 109 boys graduated from the complex during 2005-2009, 53 out of which entered different higher educational institutions,” Malkhasyan said.

According to him, girls also can study in the complex. “These children are heroes for me. To my mind, it is particularly difficult for children to deprive themselves of freedom and live such a lifestyle,” he said.

The military educational complex was established in 2001 by the government’s decision. In September 2002 “Poqr Mher” launched its educational activity. Two years later the foundation changed its status into a state non-commercial organization with state budget funding. 20% of the students are orphans.
