EU official to propose data protecting rulesJanuary 25, 2012 - 15:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A senior EU official plans to unveil proposed EU-wide rules on protecting data that her office says would save businesses money and safeguard privacy, AP reported. The proposal would mean businesses in the EU would have just one set of rules to follow, not 27. Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding's office says that would save businesses euro 2.3 billion annually. The proposal will include a "right to disappear," so if for example a Facebook user wanted to take down a photo, the company would have to delete it rather file it. Reding was pushing her proposal on Twitter: "We leave digital traces with every move we make. We need a robust set of data protection rules in this brave new data world."
