U.S. studying Russian MFA report on human rights

PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States is studying the Russian Foreign Ministry’s report on human rights violations abroad, the ministry’s human rights commissioner, Konstantin Dolgov, said.

In December 2011, the Russian Foreign Ministry published its first report on the human rights situation abroad, including in the United States and some European countries. The report in particular expressed concern over the Guantanamo prison, the freedom of speech and mistakes by the U.S. judicial system.

“Our American colleagues have confirmed that they… keep studying the Russian document. This confirms that the report was not drafted in vain,” Dolgov said. “Of course, our document has a positive influence on our human rights dialogue with the United States.”

Dolgov said in mid-January that the Russian Foreign Ministry plans to annually publish reports on human rights violations in other countries.

Commenting on December’s report, U.S. Department of State spokesman Mark Toner said Washington considers reports from other countries on the situation with human rights in the United States useful and is always open for them, RIA Novosti reported.
