Brussels to host model NATO youth summit in July

13 countries will join efforts to organize the largest simulation of the NATO’s decision-making process in the world.

The Model North Atlantic Treaty Organization Youth Summit (MoNYS 2012), a six-day event, will be taking place in Brussels in July 2012. The ambitious project is developed by an international team of 30 young people from 13 countries and supported by Université Libre de Bruxelles, NATO Headquarters in Brussels, the Atlantic Treaty Association and the Ministry of Brussels Capital Region.

During the largest simulation of the NATO’s decision-making process in the world, 221 participants, divided into 29 delegations, from both Europe and North America, will engage in debates upon MoNYS central theme “Political responsibility through leadership, innovation and strategic thinking in the XXI century”.

MoNYS' main target-group is young students from across the globe who will find themselves in the role of the representatives of every NATO member state, enthusiastically working towards achieving peace and stability in the world. The students will have the chance to broaden their views on different political approaches, while getting to know each other’s cultures better.

The ultimate goal is to deepen NATO’s decision-making process, while creating a platform for students to enhance their consensus-reaching skills, alongside mastering the art of negotiation. To achieve that, the following committees will be simulated during the conference: the North Atlantic Council (NAC), the Defence Policy and Planning Committee (DPPC), the Political Partnership Committee (PPC), the Operation Policy Committee (OPC), the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) and the NATO-Russia Council (NRC), MoNYS reported.
