SESSION OF CIS DEFENSE MINISTERS COUNCIL OPENED IN YEREVAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - The session of the Council of the CIS Defense Ministers opened in Yerevan today. The ministers are to consider over 20 issues referring to the military integration of the CIS member-states, specifically the issues of air-raid defense, the formation of joint communication system and coordination of positions for non-spreading of nuclear arms. "Military and military-technical cooperation throughout the CIS forms the most important element for the development of integration processes as well as for the social and economic development of the states", Armenian defense minister Serge Sargsain told when welcoming the meeting. Defense ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are taking part in the Yerevan sitting presided by Russian defense minister Sergey Ivanov. The Moldavian defense minister as well as the representatives of Uzbekistan and Ukraine are observing the forum. To note, before the beginning of the sitting the heads of the military departments of the CIS member-states laid wreaths to the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey.
