Eduard Sharmazanov: Azerbaijan’s historiography still enmeshed by its mixed genealogy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ilham Aliyev put forward ridiculous theses on the history of the artificially formed “Azerbaijani state” to make up for the absence of national history, Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group secretary Eduard Sharmazanov said.

“Azerbaijan’s historiography is still enmeshed by “Midian”, “Aghvanian” and “Turkic” genealogy of its people. “There was no concept of “Azeri nation” up until 1936, when Joseph Stalin artificially divided Tatars of Soviet Azerbaijan and Turks of Asia Minor on the grounds of the two states’ ideological differences,” he stated at parliamentary sitting.

“Among ridiculous concepts suggested are the Azeri origin of Gilgamesh Sumerian epic or biblical Noah’s being called an ancient Azeri scientist and astronomer. Considering the above mentioned, we can still expect Aliyev junior to use the “data” indicated for the amusement of the world,” Sharmazanov stressed.
