RA Ombudsman representative: development of new law protecting disabled people’s rights necessary

PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 17, RA National Assembly hosted parliamentary hearings on social-psychological situation and status of disabled persons in Armenia, organized by parliamentary committee on European integration and human rights.

Presenting a report on psychological situation and legal status of the disabled, RA Ombudsman Office representative Rustam Mahmudyan emphasized inconsistencies between RA legislative field and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

He stressed the necessity to develop a new RA Law on the Rights of the Disabled, first of all, replacing the term “disabled” with “physically challenged”.
