IOM Mission in Armenia launches roundtable on protection of migrant workers rights

PanARMENIAN.Net - Monday, July 19, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Armenia has organized a roundtable on the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. The discussion was held within the framework of the Global Campaign for MWC Ratification.

On the occasion of the Convention’s 20th anniversary, a global campaign has been launched calling on governments to act immediately to end the widespread violations of human rights suffered daily by migrants around the world by ratifying this Convention.

The Convention provides guidelines for international cooperation in order to promote lawful equitable and humane conditions of migration, and underscore that protection of rights of migrants is a shared responsibility of States of origin, transit and employment.

The Roundtable is an event associated by the Global Campaign and is a forum for Government officials and the civil society to discuss the topic of ratification of the Convention with a view to strengthening the protection of migrant workers' human rights.

Ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan, Head of RA Foreign Ministry International Organizations Department; Gagik Yeganyan, Head of RA State Migration Service; Artashes Bakhshyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration; Paola Pace, Research Officer at International Migration Law Department at International Organization for Migration Headquarters; Ilona Ter-Minasyan, Head of Office of IOM Mission in Armenia; Kristina Galstyan, the Head of Project Development and Implementation Unit, representatives of Armenian Ministries and government, civil society and media were invited to participate.
