Armenian journalists subjected to hours-long interrogation in Istanbul airport

PanARMENIAN.Net - On September 12, the head of Yerevan press club Boris Navasardyan reported detainment of Armenian journalists, as well as 20 passengers of Yerevan-Istanbul flight, by Turkish emigration service. The journalists arrived in Istanbul to participate in regional conference.

Turkish emigration service employees conducted a search and interrogation of Armenian passengers demanding to prove availability of sufficient sums for a stay in Turkey and return journey. The interrogation continued in spite of prior notification by Hrant Dink Foundation representative.

The incident was settled only upon the interference of conference organizers and the daughter of Hrant Dink, Dalal Dink.

After 2-hour interrogation, Armenian journalists were finally allowed to cross the border.

Navasardyan, who was one of conference organizers, stressed his intention to make a relevant announcement at the conference.
