Nobel Prize winner Timothy Hunt concerned over number of smokers among Armenian youth

PanARMENIAN.Net - The winner of 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, British biochemist Timothy Hunt was invited to Armenia in the framework of Modern Genetics lecture series.

At a news conference in Yerevan, Mr. Hunt expressed his concern over a vast number of smokers among Armenian youth. “Smoking is one of the main factors contributing to the development of cancer. As far as I know, breast and cervical cancer are also among widely spread diseases in Armenia. A vaccination process has already been launched in several countries, but the work has only started,” the scientist said.

In conclusion, Mr. Hunt emphasized the role of biology in the struggle against new types of cancer occurring worldwide.
