Armenian authorities to develop new police-public relations scheme

PanARMENIAN.Net - A parade took place in Vazgen Sargsyan Stadium on occasion of Armenian Police Day marked for the 10th consecutive year on April 16.

In his welcoming address Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that the past 20 years were important for formation and strengthening of the Armenian police. “Unfortunately, we have not created a new scheme of citizen-policeman relations. There are cases, when police officers abuse power, what hampers development of the civil society. Nevertheless, we are proud to say that Yerevan is the most secure capital city in the world,” he said.

The President also bestowed medals on some police officers for combat service.

The ceremony was attended by Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan.
