Armenian astronomers, journalists discuss science journalism developmentApril 17, 2011 - 17:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 16, the Armenian Association of Astronomers organized a seminar on science journalism through the assistance of Byurakan observatory. The event brought together several dozens of Armenian journalists to discuss problems related to coverage and popularization of science, specifically, astronomy. The journalists familiarized themselves with achievements of modern astronomy, international cooperation in the field, as well as history of the Armenian astronomy and its current status. "Our main goal is to increase reputation of science and scientists," President of the Armenian Association of Astronomers Areg Mikaelyan said. He noted that scientists and journalists need to unite their efforts to this end. The seminar participants were also briefed on the history of Byurakan observatory and biography of its founder Viktor Hambardzumyan, one of the greatest scientists of 21st century. Besides, the journalists toured the observatory. "Hambardzumyan and Byurakan observatory are inseparably associated," said Director of Byurakan observatory Hayk Harutyunyan. Harutyunyan also briefed on the current programs and problems of the observatory.
