EcoLur: Sotq deposit exploitation to cause serious damage to Lake Sevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ecolur NGO chairperson Inga Zarafyan said exploitation of Sotq deposit by GeoProMining Gold company, which has launched construction to place a crusher for gold-bearing ores, may cause serious damage to Lake Sevan.

Public discussions were organized to solve the problem, but representatives of the company did not participate in them, Zarafyan told a press conference in Yerevan. She noted that Sevan contains basic reserves of sweet water.

Vice Chairman of the National Unity party Gagik Tadevosyan said the activity of GeoProMining Gold company runs counter to the Law on Lake Sevan, which reads that exploitation of deposits is not allowed at the territories adjacent to the lake, since waste is discharged to Sevan as a result of it.
