Procession in commemoration of Armenian Genocide to be held in Rostov-on-DonApril 21, 2010 - 10:56 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A procession in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923 will take place on April 24 in Rostov-on-Don from the St. Karapet Armenian church to Karl Marx square. A liturgy will be served and flowers will be laid at a cross-stone prior to the procession which is held in the framework of the events dated to the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The events are organized by the Nakhijevan-on-Don Armenian community, Miasin.Ru reported. The Armenian Genocide The Armenian Genocide (1915-23) was the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I. It was characterized by massacres and deportations, involving forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees, with the total number of deaths reaching 1.5 million.
