International community has no right to demand concessions from NKR

PanARMENIAN.Net - “Artsakh Settlement. Legal and Political Aspects” round table discussion was held in Stepanakert, the NKR capital, on occasion of the 16th anniversary of conclusion of ceasefire agreement in the conflict area.

The speakers at the event dwelled on the ongoing negotiation process and strategic plans to improve the current situation.

Stressing the necessity to refrain from stereotypes, which disport the real state of affairs, they also said that the international community has no right to demand concessions from NKR, reported the press office of the NKR Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
