Eminent personalities reportedly join Facebook group supporting Gaddafi

PanARMENIAN.Net - A Facebook group supporting Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi’s regime, has reportedly signed on several eminent personalities from the world of politics, television, and films without their permission.

The “Colonel Gaddafi Support Group” has added people along with supporters of the Libyan dictator

The high profile personalities who appeared in the list include John Cleese, Alan Titchmarsh and Borat actor Sascha Baron Cohen, and British MPs Eric Pickles and Sir Ian Paisley.

The members are reportedly believed to have been added after a change in the site’s policy allowed friends of the group’s creator, Claire Khaw, to be added without their consent.

Khaw, who is a well known for generating controversy by using the social networking site and other internet sources, denied allegations saying she was using it to highlight the flaw that allowed anybody to join a group.

“Should your FB friends be allowed to add you to their groups without your knowledge and consent? Is it not enough that you can leave group with a click of the button? What if you lack the intelligence and initiative to find the “leave group” button? Does that not sort of mean that you deserve to stay here forever?” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Facebook spokeswoman said users cannot prevent themselves from being added to groups by friends.

“We would always encourage people to only be friends with people you actually know. When a friend adds you to a group, you’ll get a notification right away and you can leave a group at anytime,” the spokeswoman added, the Daily Mail reports.
