World powers remain short of accord about how to stem bloodshed in Libya

PanARMENIAN.Net - France's Foreign Minister said top diplomats from leading world powers remain short of an accord about how to stem bloodshed between troops and rebels in Moammar Gadhafi's Libya.

According to the Associated Press, Alain Juppe said Foreign Ministers from the Group of Eight countries meeting in Paris agree that efforts at the UN Security Council are needed to pressure Gadhafi's regime, and that Arab nations should be on board.

Juppe said such pressure could include "reinforcing sanctions, decreeing a maritime embargo and foreseeing a no-fly zone - even if that's not a panacea."

The ministers - with the notable exception of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - are holding talks March 15 on Libya, Japan's post-earthquake crisis and other pressing world issues.
