Opposition supporters clash with police in BakuApril 2, 2011 - 16:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Supporters of the Azerbaijani opposition clashed with police at Fountains Square in Baku. To prevent the opposition’s actions, 200 policemen have cordoned off the square. The protest action started at 02:00pm. Around 50-60 rally participants approached the square in groups, chanting slogans “Resignation!” and “Freedom.” There are people injured in the clashes between the police and rally participants, including a woman who has got a head injury. Ten supporters of the Azerbaijani opposition have been detained and taken away from the square, including supporter of the Public Council, journalist Shahveled Chobanoglu. Among those detained are also leader of People’s Party Panah Huseyn, head of the Central Executive Board of Musavat Arif Hacili and another nine people, including two women, Salam News reported with reference to the press service of Musavat. Besides, the police have detained former opposition parliamentary candidate Parviz Samedov. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
