“The First Annual Armenian Street Festival in London” to be held June 12

PanARMENIAN.Net - On June12 , Iverna Gardens, Kensington, London, will host a village-style street festival “The First Annual Armenian Street Festival in London” celebrating the heritage of Armenians in the UK.

On that day between 1-5pm, Iverna Gardens will be closed off to vehicular traffic and two nicely decorated tents will be erected for guests to enjoy food and drinks around the beautiful garden square, and in the presence of the awe-inspiring replica bell tower of the 7th century Haghbat Monastery in historic Armenia.

This will be the first of an annual Armenian Street Festival in London. Visitors to the Festival will have access to the normally private gardens as part of the London Open Garden Squares Weekend and to the grounds and sanctuary of St. Sarkis Church, consecrated in 1923, a little known gem in the heart of Kensington.

The afternoon will be filled with fun, food, live entertainment and children’s activities. There will be live folk and contemporary music, delicious homemade cuisine, dance, and children's activities including a puppet show, bouncing castle, and clown.

The Festival Committee is already preparing a list of stall-holders to setup a range of stalls, displaying among many other things the varied and rich cultural heritage of the Armenian people, including books, paintings, jewellery, arts and crafts. The church ladies will be preparing traditional Armenian and Mediterranean food, refreshments and desserts. Part of the entertainment program of the day will be offered inside the Church which will include performances by professional musicians and singers. The day will conclude at 5pm with medieval Armenian vespers in the peaceful and inspiring sanctuary of the St. Sarkis church. As the Armenian Street Festival happens to coincide with Open Garden Squares Weekend, the organizing committee expects a large number of visitors from all over the UK.
