Artsakh President awards some citizens on occasion of three holidays

PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 8, President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan held a solemn ceremony of awarding on occasion of the Victory Holiday, Day of the NKR Defense Army and Liberation of Shushi.

Mr. Sahakyan congratulated the attendees on one of the dearest and cherished holidays for Karabakh and its people - the May 9 triple holiday - and awarded a range of people.Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, chairman of the NKR National Assembly Ashot Ghulyan, NKR Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan, members of political parties and non-governmental organizations, veterans of the Great Patriotic and Artsakh Liberation Wars and other officials participated in the ceremony. Guests from the Republic of Armenia were present at the event as well, the Central Information Department at the Artsakh President's Office reported.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
