May 9 triple holiday celebrated in Stepanakert

PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 8, President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan and President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan were present at а solemn event dedicated to the May 9 triple holiday held in Stepanakert youth and culture palace as part of solemn events celebrating the Victory Holiday, Day of the NKR Defense Army and Liberation of Shushi . Second president of the Republic of Artsakh Arkady Ghukasyan, Head of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, speaker of the NKR National Assembly Ashot Ghulyan, Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan, supreme command staff of the Defense Army, other high ranking officials, veterans of the Artsakh Liberation War, as well as guests from Armenia and abroad participated in the event, the Central Information Department at the Artsakh President's Office reported.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
