Turkish parliament speaker joined 'struggle' against Armenian Genocide resolution

PanARMENIAN.Net - On behalf of Turkish MPs, Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc sent a letter to his U.S. counterpart Nancy Pelosi not to endorse the Armenian Genocide resolution. In his letter Arinc says, 'With respect to 1915 events, Turkey is not in a state of irresponsible denial' and blames for not opening archives, reports the Turkish Daily News. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will reportedly get in contact with U.S. President George W. Bush soon, either by a phone call or a letter, said the Turkish sources.



In the 4-page letter Arinc said, "Armenians do not accept the invitations of Turkey to the historians for an impartial research purified from prejudices to find the real truth." Arinc's letter to Pelosi is expected to be conveyed today by the Turkish Embassy to Washington, said the Turkish sources.



"It is not clear if or when the bill will come to the House agenda but the Armenian Diaspora is putting pressure for passage of the resolution before April 24," Arinc wrote adding, "If the H. Res.106 is passed it will be considered by Turkish society as U.S. support to Armenian claims."
