Adam Schiff will press for parity in U.S. military aid to Armenia and Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - "I believe that in the end the Congress will restore parity in military assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan," Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) said in an interview with PanARMENIAN.Net "As a member of the State / Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, I have made restoration of parity a priority. The prospects for peace will be undermined if parity is not maintained," he said.

In FY 2008 the White House is planning to allocate $3 million in military aid to Armenia, while Azerbaijan is expected to receive $4.3 million, despite a 2001 agreement between the U.S. Congress and the Bush administration calling for parity in the allocation of military aid to both countries. Besides, the draft budget doesn't provide for humanitarian assistance to Nagorno Karabakh.
