MERSOCUR bloc parliament recognized Armenian GenocideNovember 21, 2007 - 14:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - During a plenary session of the MERSOCUR bloc's parliament held in Montevideo November 19, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay by a majority vote approved Human Rights Commission's decision on the Armenian Genocide recognition. The statement says in part, "MERSOCUR's parliament condemns the Genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923, which claimed lives of 1.5 million people, and expresses support to the Justice Court of the Armenian nation."MERSOCUR's parliament calls on the governments and parliaments to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide. MERSOCUR was formed in 1986. Being one of the major organizations of South America, it unites Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. Chile, Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador and Peru are associated members. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
