Belgrade may impose economic sanctions on Kosovo

PanARMENIAN.Net - Serbia will impose economic sanctions on Kosovo if the latter declares independence, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said.



"If status is declared illegally and unilaterally it is hard to expect free and unrestricted flow of goods and services between Kosovo and Serbia," Jeremic said. However, he refrained from furnishing any details of retaliation.



"It should be understood that unilateral measures may cause big problems in the Balkans," he said, Vesti reports.



Former Kosovar guerrilla leader Hashim Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) won the legislative elections held in the province November 17 and immediately reaffirmed Kosovo's intentions to proclaim independence immediately after December 10 despite U.S. and EU signaling prematurity of the move.



Russia doesn't support the idea of Kosovo's independence.
