Lavrov: OSCE MG proposals basis for moving forwardMay 31, 2008 - 13:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian is hopeful that the forthcoming presidential meeting will give renewed impetus to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement."The Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are expected in Saint Petersburg on June 6. We hope that the meeting will be efficient and the Presidents will instruct the Foreign Minister to continue talks," Minister Nalbandian told a joint news conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. Voicing confidence that the upcoming presidential meeting should underlie further activities, the Russian Minister said, for his part, "An agreement can be reached via immediate talks in the framework of mechanisms developed by the mediators. Public discussion of any proposal beyond the MG structure can hardly help intermediary endeavors." "The desire of any of the sides to reach an agreement as soon as possible is understandable. Nevertheless, intolerance should not upset the mechanisms which have proved efficient," he said. Mr Lavrov reminded that last year the MG Co-chairs handed the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs a document which fixes progress on majority of aspects of the future settlement. "This document is a good basis for moving forward," he concluded, RIA Novosti reports. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit.
