Israeli president declared rumors on possible attack on Iran to be "nonsense"

PanARMENIAN.Net - On Apr. 16 Israeli President Shimon Peres met Senator George Mitchell, US President Barack Obama's special representative to discuss burning issues of Middle Eastern policy.

According to Shimon Peres, vast international collaboration should be established in order to counter Iran. Peres stressed that possibilities of dialogue with Iran should be weighed to find out its true intentions.



US Defense Minister Robert Gates stated that a possible Israeli assault on Iran's nuclear facilities will have dangerous consequences and can hardly check Iraqi nuclear weapons program.



According to The Times report of Apr. 18, 2009, Israeli military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Iran's nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.



Among the steps taken to ready Israeli forces for what would be a risky raid requiring pinpoint aerial strikes are the acquisition of three Airborne Warning and Control (AWAC) aircraft and regional missions to simulate the attack.

Two nationwide civil defense drills will help to prepare the public for the retaliation that Israel could face.
