No clause contained in Madrid document may be deemed pro-Armenian

PanARMENIAN.Net - None of the clauses contained in Madrid Principles is favorable for Armenia, political scientist Levon Shirinyan told a news conference in Yerevan. "Madrid Document requires that certain territories be handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of the land corridor between NKR and Armenia," he stressed.



As noted by the political scientist, international community has never given Armenia security guarantees. "We mustn't be guided by illusions," he said. "Trusting international security guarantees is the first illusion, and believing in the impossibility of NKR conflict settlement against its peoples and government's will is the second. It wasn't as though Karabakh was annexed to Azerbaijan in 1920," Shirinyan said, stressing the importance of transferring negotiation process to another domain. "Talks should only focus on strengthening Karabakh as a sovereign state. If the issue is not included in negotiation agenda, there's no sense in discussing other questions," the speaker stressed.
