Iranian scholars protest bans against opposition

PanARMENIAN.Net - Dozens of instructors from the University of Tehran have called on the country's Supreme Religious Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to put an end to persecutions against pro-opposition figures.

The letter posted on the Internet was signed by 88 individuals who stressed the importance of holding accountable those guilty of anti-government speeches, Radio Liberty reports.

At the end of December, demonstrators' clashes with the police resulted in the death of at least 8 individuals, including the nephew of one of opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi.
