Hail causes 7-10 million damage to Armenia annuallyOctober 22, 2009 - 15:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government on Thursday amended the State Budget 2009's incomes and expenditures totaling AMD 250 million in the framework of the Japanese grant for the construction of anti- hail stations in Armavir and Ararat. As the Minister of Agriculture of Armenia Gerasim Alaverdyan said, a grant was provided by the Japan's government under the program of "Food Production Growth", aimed at developing the agriculture of the country. As Mr. Alaverdyan informed, natural disasters cause annual losses amounting USD 13-20 million, half of which is caused by hail. "Numerous observations and complaints of villagers testify that, hail causes damage to all areas of the country: Armavir, Ararat, Gegharkunik, Shirak, Lori," he said. The minister ensured that installation of 25 anti hail stations will help to protect up to 3 000 hectares of land.
