Nerses Yeritsyan: production for external market is very expensive

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan said that the ministry has started reforming the system of quality control.

Local producers will face no problems with organization of their output export in 2 years, Yeritsyan told journalists during his September 29 visit to Grand Candy company, the leader of Armenia’s food industry.

According to him, the volumes of export in the field of Armenia’s food industry are not great; however, 50-60% growth was recorded in this index.

Armenia exports chocolate at the amount of $40mln annually, what indicates that there is a great potential in this market; it is just necessary to secure relevant range of products and quality.

“There are several small companies, which have found their market niche abroad, and they need the government’s assistance. Our works have bee intensified in this direction through application of relevant mechanisms. Specifically, the Armenian Development Agency deals with this,” said Yeritsyan.

He added that organization of export requires special knowledge, while local producers unfortunately lack it.

“Importers cannot stop importing a product, the range of which changes from day to day. Thus, we should study the needs of our consumers. Production for an external market is very expensive,” concluded Yeritsyan.
