Vineyards enlarged in Areni villageOctober 14, 2010 - 16:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of Areni village (Vayots Dzor region, Armenia) administration Zhirayr Yeghoyan said that the grape harvest in the village totaled 700t this year. Over 20 sorts of grape have been cultivated in the village since the Bronze Age, including Areni sort, of which the favorite wine of Armenians is made. Currently, 1970 people reside in the village; there are 580 rural economies. According to Zhirayr Yeghoyan, the price for high-quality grape varied from AMD 200 to 220 depending on sugar content. Areni and Arpa Alco plants operating in Vayots Dzor already purchased 200t and 150t of grape respectively. Referring to territories of vineyards, Yeghoyan noted that there is a trend of their enlargement - 150ha were cultivated this year against previous 120ha.
