Armenia, Iran explore ways to boost industrial cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Iranian Deputy Minister of Industries and Mines Ahmad Khadem ul-Melleh and Armenian envoy to Tehran Grigor Arakelyan in a meeting in Tehran explored ways to boost industrial cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

During the meeting, the two officials called for further expansion of industrial ties between the two countries.

Khadem ul-Melleh pointed to both countries' potentials for bolstering their cooperation in mines and industrial areas and called for organizing industrial tours for Armenian business owners in Iran.

The Armenian ambassador, too, announced his country's readiness to participate in the projects introduced by Iran's ministry of industries and mines and asked for more information on the Islamic Republic's potentials in the area.

Arakelyan said that the bilateral trade value between the two states hits $270 million and the figure is on the rise.

Both sides agreed that managers of both countries' mines and industrial sectors examine the areas of cooperation through a conference, Fars News Agency reported.

Iran and Armenia have in recent years expanded cooperation in different fields, specially in power and gas swap. Iran mainly exports natural gas to Armenia and imports power supplies from the Caucasian state through two transfer lines with a total power transfer capacity of 220kw/ph at present.

In October, the two sides agreed to form a joint working group to explore way of expanding their mutual cooperation in grounds of water and renewable energy resources. The agreement was reached in a meeting between Iranian Minister of Energy Majid Namjou and Armen Movsisyan in Tehran.
