Armenia to host international tourism forum in autumn 2012

PanARMENIAN.Net - UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Ministry of Economy of Armenia agreed to hold an international tourism forum, according to RA Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan.

After Memorandum of Understanding on development of tourism in South Caucasus was signed, the Armenian Minister said that the forum is scheduled for autumn 2012.

“This forum will be unprecedented in its scales, as besides regional tourism representatives, world tourism industry leaders will also be present at the event,” Mr. Davtyan said adding that the details of forum will be specified later with the UNWTO representatives which will help Armenia get ready for the event at a due level.

Besides, the Armenian Ministry of Economy and UNWTO came to preliminary understanding that the leaders of tourism companies will be re-trained in the central office of the international institution. “This is a brilliant opportunity for our specialists to improve their professional skills that will enable to raise Armenia at the world tourism industry market,” the Minister said. Mr. Davtyan noted that Armenia addressed UNWTO with a request to support world brands inflow to the country. As the Minister said, the talks with world leading representatives of tourism industry are in progress. “In a near future we expect some of them coming to Armenia,” he said, although withholding the brands names.

UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary General, Taleb Rifai, accompanied by Executive Director for Member Relations and Services Zoltan Somogyi, is for first time in Armenia on an official visit.
