Armenia strives to increase food security October 12, 2011 - 14:15 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - In near future, Armenia will increase food security level to achieve a result of 80%, according to Armenian Agriculture Minister. As Sergo Karapetryan told a news conference in Yerevan, a 2010-2012 food security provision concept was developed and confirmed by a presidential decree. “At present, Armenia’s food self-sufficiency ratio reaches 60%, with the country planning to increase the figure to 80%,” the Minister said. Adoption of a food security concept sets a firm foundation for stimulating local agricultural production, also developing mechanisms to increase crediting availability for farmers and agricultural enterprises.
