Russian expert: Armenian Genocide worldwide recognition unlikely

PanARMENIAN.Net - There will be no universal recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the “international community”, and the recent developments in France came to prove it, Yana Amelina, head of Caucasus studies department of the Russian Strategic Research Institute, said.

“This is stipulated by several reasons,” she told PanARMENIAN.Net

“Obviously, such recognition is a political and not a legal move, sort of a much binding political declaration. Many states are not ready for such action, and not only because this would damage their relations with Turkey which outweighs Armenia on the international arena.

In addition, a question emerges as to the lawfulness of qualifying the events of that epoch by today’s legal definitions. Russia’s geopolitical opponents actively engage the topic of “genocide” with regard to Circassians, Chechens and other Northern Caucasus nations. In the foreseeable future, Turkey’ stance on the Armenian Genocide will further remain prevailing,” the expert said.
