Top events of the week: Turandot and Golden Apricot opening

PanARMENIAN.Net - As summer heat comes on, most fields seem to enter off season;however, Armenian cultural life is in full swing now, as always.

July kicked off with regional concerts of My Armenia festivalinitiated by the RA Diaspora Ministry. Diaspora groups visitedregions with nice performances for the locals.Singer Sergey Arustamyan met with journalists last week to speak aboutthe New Wave song contest he is going to participate in. Arustamyanpromised to come up with stylish performance and his owninterpretation of “Ov sirun, sirun”(“Oh, beauty”) song.

On July 3 and 6 concert performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandotopera was staged in Aram Khachatryan concert hall. This was its firstever staging in Armenia. South Korean tenor Enrico Lee who arrived inArmenia to perform Calàf’s part touched the heart of the audience withhis voice. Classical music fans were really surprised to see RichardMadlenian, popular TV series actor appear on the stage. Madlenian,professional opera singer surprised people with his bass performance.

Most singers appeared on stage wearing beautiful gowns, and theaudience was again surprised to see Ping, Pang and Pong characterswith Chinese dresses and gestures. Both concerts were full house,winning thunderous applause. Following the concert, everybody agreedthat the performance needs an opera staging too.

Turandot's opening night in Armenia is definitely one of the majorevents of the week.

The weekend was remarkable for the opening ceremony of the 9th Golden ApricotInternational FilmFestival. Festival organizers appeared quiteoriginal this time; the event opened with a classic Armenian movie“Shor and Shorshor” which got a warm welcome by both Armenian andforeign guests.

Vahagn Hayrapetyan enlivened the movie with his arrangement ofArmenian folk melodies. His music, combination of folk and moderninstruments accompanied the whole film.

The festival will be there for a whole week, and we will cover itsmost interesting moments.
