Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter wins Olympics equestrian silver

PanARMENIAN.Net -

Zara Phillips, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, was awarded her Olympic medal by her mother, the Princess Royal, as the British equestrian team won silver in the eventing at Greenwich.

Miss Phillips has become the first member of the Royal family to win an Olympic medal after Team GB claimed silver in the team three-day eventing competition.

Despite a “disappointing” showjumping round in which she knocked down a fence, GB held on to second place after clear rounds from Tina Cook, Mary King and William Fox-Pitt.

Miss Phillips, who put in a flawless performance in the cross-country July 30, was once again cheered on by a strong Royal turn-out including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Miss Phillips is only the second member of the Royal family to compete in an Olympic Games, following her mother, Princess Anne, who failed to win a medal when she competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, The Telegraph said.
