Paper says Armenia’s poverty rate totals 60-70%October 18, 2012 - 11:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has recently noted in his speech that the poverty rate in the republic totals about 30%. However, according to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, the actual index is much higher. Armenian citizens whose monthly income is below AMD 33 500 (according to 2010 data) are considered poor. Meanwhile, according to RA National Statistical Service, the minimum consumer basket per month totals AMD 53 000. Though no survey has been carried out, at least 60-70% of Armenia’s population earn below AMD 53 000 monthly income, the paper says.
