Latvian President to arrive in Armenia October 6

PanARMENIAN.Net - President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga and her husband Imants Freibergs will pay a formal visit to Armenia October 6-8. The visit will be held by invitation of Armenian President Robert Kocharian, RA President's press service reported. Ministers of Economy, Transport and Communications, Culture as well as other officials and about 50 businessmen will serve of the Latvian delegation. The visit aims at forcing bilateral ties, consolidation of cooperation and determination of priority lines of economic collaboration. The leaders of the two states will consider the EU-Armenia relations and exchange views on a number of international problems. To note, in April 2005 Vaira Vike-Freiberga joined the group of world leaders formed by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan for contribution to the UN reformation process.



October 7 the Latvian and Armenian Presidents will hold a tete-a-tete meeting to be followed by talks in expanded composition. The Presidents will sign a number of bilateral documents and a joint declaration. Intergovernmental agreements on mutual protection of investments, cooperation in custom and cultural fields will be as well concluded. The Latvian President is also scheduled to meet with Armenian National Assembly Speaker Artur Baghdassaryan and Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan. The closing ceremony of the Latvian-Armenian business conference will be held with the participation of the Armenian and Latvian Presidents. Besides, the delegation will lay a wreath to the memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims. Vaira Vike-Freiberga is expected to meet with the teaching staff and students of the Yerevan State University, visit Holy Echmiadzin, the Yerevan Brandy Factory and Martiros Sarian Park. The delegation will depart from Armenia on October 8.
