No Agreement on Terms of Continuation of Karabakh Talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - During an unofficial meeting between Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Vartan Oskanian and Elmar Mammadyarov no agreement was made over the venue and time of continuation of the talks on peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, V. Oskanian said himself. «Both parties wish to resume talks at the level of Presidents and FMs as soon as possible, however neither the day, nor the venue of the meetings is decided yet,» V. Oskanian said, hoping for the time of the future meetings to be determined after the regional visit of Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Answering a question on his address at the session of the OSCE Council of Ministers, the Armenian FM said that in his speech he accentuated the Nagorno Karabakh issue. «The issue of people's self-determinations was the major subject of my address. The OSCE Council of FMs session this year coincided with the Helsinki Final Act 30th anniversary and my speech based on the fact that we should demonstrate an integrated approach to the Ten Commandments - the Final Act - and we cannot prefer one. In this respect I emphasized peoples' right to self-determination, presenting the Karabakh issue within that light and grounding Nagorno Karabakh people's right to self-determination," V. Oskanian remarked. In his words, Karabakh «should attribute legal character to the fact of self-determination.» «Azerbaijan's recognition of this right can pave way to a serious process and after that recognition we will be able to address other aspects of the issue and display an integral approach. However, the most important thing is the Karabakh people's right to self-determination and solution of the issue on the basis of that principle,» the Armenian FM summed up, reported RFE/RL.
