Philanthropist Michael Aramyants’ birth anniversary marked in Tbilisi

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 170th birth anniversary of famed Armenian philanthropist Michael Aramyants was celebrated in Artsakh, Yerevan and Tbilisi.

A commemorative ceremony was held on May 4 in St. Etchmiadzin Armenian Church in Tbilisi, followed by a memorial evening in “Hayartun” Cultural Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Chairman of the Patriotic Union "Lorva Dzor" ("Lori Valley"), the Head of RA State Language Inspectorate, Doctor of Philology, Professor Sergo Eritsyan delivered opening remarks.

President of the Tbilisi branch of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia Yenok Tadevosyan, Advisor to the President of Georgia Van Baiburtian, journalist Samvel Poghosyan recalled the activities of the Armenian benefactor, and underlined the necessity to bring them to the notion of future generations.

First Secretary of the RA embassy in Georgia Artak Ghalachyan, in turn, noted that at the initiative of the embassy, a memorial board will be unveiled on the wall of the philanthropist’s house in Tbilisi.

Vahe Antanesyan, the author of the book "Episodes from the Life and Work of Michael Aramyants", spoke about the idea of writing about the benefactor and the support provided for the publication of this book. The event further featured screening of the film "Michael Aramyants - Armenian with a Big Heart", s shot by Samvel Galoyan according to the scenario of Sergo Yeritsyan.

At the suggestion of those present, it was resolved to move the tombstones of Tbilisi’s Armenian philanthropists to Pantheon "Khojivank”, press service of Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia reported.
